Minerals Government - Policy CPI(M) opposes mining policy
Our Bureau New Delhi, July 8 The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has opposed the National Mineral Policy, 2007 approved by the Group of Ministers on Friday. It has urged that the Union Cabinet should not approve the policy, which allows unrestricted export of iron ore. The Left parties have all along been demanding that export of non-renewable natural resources be controlled in view of future requirements. In a statement, the CPI(M) said: “The polit bureau disapproves the proposed mining policy approved by the Group of Ministers. Under this policy, unrestricted export of iron ore would be allowed. This would be a short-sighted and harmful policy. Indiscriminate exports of iron ore and other mineral resources will denude India of its natural resources.”
