R.Y. Narayanan Coimbatore, July 8 The two-day ‘The Hindu Opportunities Fair 2007’, which began at the Codissia Trade Fair complex in Coimbatore on Saturday witnessed a robust response from job seekers not only from the city but also from the nearby districts. It is estimated that nearly 40 per cent of about 9,000 candidates who turned up at the job fair on the first day were women. While the ITES and IT companies witnessed the strongest response, companies from other fields such as textile, real estate etc. that had put up stalls also attracted eager visitors. A notable feature of this year was the keen interest shown by the experienced employees whose turnout was impressive. According to available information from some of the participants at the fair, around 350 candidates were either given on the spot job offers after interviews or were short-listed. The companies included IT and ITES majors like Cognizant, Patni Computers, Wipro, Allsec Technologies, Covansys, Perot Systems etc. The local participants such as KGISL, Sharadha Terry Products, Classic Polo and 365 Media attracted much attention as many job aspirants were keen on landing a job in the region.
