Export-led growth

While India’s liberalisation policy has scored many plus points, it has not been successful in certain areas. One can see that successive governments have been obsessed with IT and software. These sectors are, no doubt, important for export-led growth. But in a predominantly agrarian economy such as India’s, agriculture, food processing and biotechnology, spices, traditional textiles and engineering must be given a fillip because not only can they generate a lot of foreign exchange but also fetch the right prices for million of struggling farmers and improve the prospects of textile workers.

The Exim Policy should focus on these sectors and recommend suitable allocations for their development.
