SAIL unit launches new software

Kolkata, July 10

The Raw Materials Division of SAIL will be introducing modern software in all its mechanised iron ore mines to achieve consistency in quality of iron ore lumps and fines. Consistency in chemical parameters is an important factor in improving blast furnace productivity, says a press release. The division has recorded 8.3 per cent growth in iron ore output during the first quarter (April – June 2007) compared to the same period of the previous year. Production of iron ore lump, for which plants have a high requirement, has registered a growth of 17.8 per cent. Individually, RMD’s mines namely Chiria, Barsua, Gua, Bolani, Meghahatuburu, and Kiriburu, have registered a growth of 39.7 per cent, 34.9 per cent, 23.3 per cent, 16.2 per cent, 7.3 per cent and 6.4 per cent respectively, in the first quarter of the year compared to the previous year, adds the release.
