The Hindu Business Line : Blue Bird full year net up 7.28%

Pune, July 10 Blue Bird India Ltd, provider of notebooks, office stationery and print publications, has posted a 13.25 per cent growth in revenue at Rs 454.92 crore for the year ended March 31, 2007. Net profit was Rs 26.94 crore, 7.28 per cent up over Rs 25.11 crore in the previous year.

The revenue of the publication division grew 217 per cent at Rs 76.99 crore (Rs 24.23 crore)while that of the printing division grew to Rs 35.76 crore (Rs 15.79 crore), an increase of 126 per cent.

Notebook market

The company garners Rs 335 crore from the Rs 750-crore notebook market catered to by the large organised players, a company statement said.

Mr Nitin Sontakke, Chairman & Managing Director, Blue Bird India, said: “Besides ensuring its leader status in the exercise/notebooks business, the company has embarked on developing its exports business as well. It has already carved a niche for itself in African markets by printing school text books and other school stationary”. At present,the company has over 9,000 dealers and 800 wholesalers.

The stationary market in India is influenced by educational and office stationary products, especially from school and syllabus-based books.

According to an AC Nielsen study, the market is estimated at Rs 1,000 crore per annum and growing at 20 per cent.
