Our Bureau Mumbai, July 10 The fate of eight crew members, including the captain, of the ill-fated ONGC offshore supply vessel (OSV), which sank of the coast of Mumbai on Monday afternoon, remains unknown. Two advanced offshore patrol vessels and as many helicopters of the Coast Guard besides three supply vessels of the ONGC continued their search on Tuesday. Although the OSV was owned by ONGC it was manned by Sical Logistics Ltd. Sical said in a press statement that the captain got the first flood alarm at around 1.00 a.m on Tuesday . He anchored the ship near the ONGC platform, Sagar Gaurav, to control the flooding. The crew could not control the flooding due to bad weather. The captain lifted the anchor at about 0930 and started drifting and waiting for tow vessel, Nand Panna. The Nand Panna came to tow away the Samudrika-10 to safety. By noon the towropes were connected and towing started. “But the ship started listing on the right (star board side) and the Nand Panna disconnected the tow and at 12.35 p.m., 10 minutes later, the vessel started sinking by stern,” the statement said. The names of the missing crew members are Capt. Gurubachan Singh, Radio Officer K. Unnikrishnan, Electrical Officer Rajendra Singh, Bosun Rajveer Singh, Oiler Shivmohan Tripathi, Able Seamen Vivek Kumar and Shyam Ji and Cook Sukanta Banerjee.
