Somasroy Chakraborty Kolkata, July 7 Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) is currently in talks with global hotel chains including Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons Hotels to set up business and luxury hotels in its proposed Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Haryana and Jamnagar in Gujarat, industry sources said. The RIL spokesperson declined to comment on the development. However, a RIL source confirmed that the company was in talks with “several players” but added that it was yet to finalise a deal. “For SEZs we are inviting a lot of investors. In SEZs, people come for business and it is natural that they will have to stay there. Hence, there is a need for hotel rooms in the SEZs,” the source said. The source, however, added that RIL was yet to decide if it would set up hotels on its own or lease out space to the hotel chains. “It’s too premature to comment right now what type of model we will adopt,” the source said. According to an industry analyst, “The move is only natural since anybody setting up a SEZ will also consider hotels there because of a definite captive market.”
