Strategy Variety - Interiors & Homes Traditional kitchens giving way to comfort zones
Anjana Chandramouly Bangalore, July 11 A dream home is what many want to own these days. Individual spaces such as the kitchen are attended to in a special way just to make the home perfect, in every sense of the word. Thus kitchens have moved beyond being a mere cooking space to comfort zones. Today, the traditional Indian kitchen has paved way for contemporary Italian kitchens and others of the kind.An essential ingredient to having that dream kitchen is efficient space management and an exposure to the latest ‘kitchen’ trends. Mr Jack Bastian, Director – Marketing and Sales, Sobha Developers, says today’s women, with good exposure to the latest trends, “are very keen on efficient space management,” he adds. Cabinets and modular kitchens with fittings such as hobs, chimneys and other upgrades are widely preferred, says Ms Indira V. Sharma, Vice-President - Marketing, Brigade Group. Mr Mahesh Kalro, Associate Vice-President, DivyaSree Developers, adds that the client has a wide range of modular kitchens to choose from. “In fact, the selection of home appliances is linked to the range of modular chosen.” Donna Rossi, which opened a modular kitchen boutique in the city a few months ago, has seen average sales of 600-700 kitchens a month, according to Mr M.P. Farook, Chairman and Managing Director. Customer expectations are now going over the moon, says Mr Hari Menon, Vice-President – Marketing, Mantri Developers. “However, sensibility prevails, depending on individual budgets,” which may be anything upwards of Rs 2 lakh. As Mr Farook says, it seems that “the sky is the limit” when it comes to spending on this dream space.
