Thiruvananthapuram, July 12

A number of hospitals operating in Ernakulam have come under the scanner of the Kerala State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) for violation of air and water pollution norms as well as biomedical waste handling rules notified under the Environment Protection Act, 1986. The Chairman, KSPCB, issued a closure notice on Thursday to the City Hospital located on M.G. Road “until necessary and sufficient measures for safe disposal of wastes were taken to the satisfaction of t he board”. Patients must be shifted safely to other hospitals without causing them any inconvenience. Earlier, the Cochin Hospital had invited similar strictures from the board. Fresh notices have now been served on the Medical Trust Hospital and the Ernakulam Medical Centre at Palarivattom. –
