The Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, will inaugurate the 23rd Conference of Chief Commissioners and Directors General of Income Tax on July 17.

An official release said that the two-day conference would deliberate on strengthening of the tax deduction at source (TDS) mechanism, strategies for maximising collections, reduction of arrears and widening of tax base.

The progress of computerisation and the topic of information collection and monitoring mechanism would also be discussed along with the issue of human resource management.
