‘Footwear component makers need to invest in integrated parks’

Chennai, July 14 The footwear component manufacturers need to expand and partner with footwear manufacturers in setting up integrated footwear parks for growth, according to Mr K. Elangovan, Executive Director, Council for Leather Exports.

The component manufacturers need to invest in integrated footwear parks that are to come up over the next five years, he said.

Addressing the footwear components and accessories exhibition here today, Mr Elangovan said the footwear industry was about $1.3 billion (Rs 5,200 crore) and growing at about 20 per cent.

Mr Mukhtarul Amin, Chairman, Council for Leather Exports, said that the component industry was the foundation for the growth of footwear exports.
