Unified face of Air India on show from Aug 1

Ashwini Phadnis

New Delhi, July 15

If you are travelling between Delhi and Mumbai with the State-owned Indian, do not head for its check-in counter from August 1. Instead, look for a counter sporting a red-coloured swan with the Konark chakra inside it — the logo of the unified Air India which would be unveiled for the public at Delhi, Mumbai and at New York’s John F. Kennedy airport.

From August 1, the logo would also feature on the boarding card, baggage tag, lounges and even the coaches used to transport passengers to the aircraft. Air India is the name chosen for the unified entity of Air India and Indian.

“In a progressive manner the new logo would be rolled out in all airports throughout the country and abroad. From August 1, passengers will also get to see the Ritu Beri-designed new cabin crew uniforms on flights operated internationally and also on some select flights in the domestic skies. In addition, frequent-flyer members would be sent mailers informing them about the creation of the new airline and billboards will be placed at strategic locations in various cities to announce the event,” a senior airline official said.

The airline is confident of completing all technical and procedural formalities for the merger by the month-end, following a meeting that the Chairman and Managing Director, Mr V. Thulasidas, had recently with the Secretary, Ministry of Company Affairs.

The airline codes — IC for Indian and AI for Air India — would however remain for some more time, until the IT platforms are integrated, officials added.
