Gokaldas has revival plan for Wearhouse chain

Swetha Kannan

Bangalore, July 16Gokaldas Exports plans to revive its Wearhouse chain of retail outlets after 6-8 months.

About two years ago, Gokaldas had closed down most of its 36 Wearhouse outlets across India in cities such as Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bhopal and Delhi. Currently, only three outlets are operational in Bangalore.

“We had invested about Rs 35 crore in Wearhouse. But the returns (about 10-15 per cent) were not proportionate to the investment. Everyone talks of retail in a big way, but there is hardly any money in it. But when the conditions stabilise, we hope to revive the Wearhouse chain, in the South to start with,” said Mr Rajendra Hinduja, Director, Gokaldas Exports.

Incidentally, Gokaldas has been supplying in bulk its ‘Camel’ brand of products to the German retailer Metro for the last four months.
