Lagging still: A farmer carrying paddy seedlings in his bicycle to his field on the outskirts of Guwahati city. Transplantation of paddy is going on in full swing throughout Assam and other north-eastern States. Kharif sowing has gathered pace across the country, but paddy acreage is still lagging. Till last week, 46.02 lakh hectares were covered under paddy against 47.67 lakh hectares during the corresponding period last year. —
