Shipping Corporate - Performance Cochin Shipyard achieves record productivity
Our Bureau Kochi, July 19 Cochin Shipyard Ltd has achieved an all-time high of 1,81,000 dwt in shipbuilding this year surpassing the previous best of 1,10,206 dwt achieved in 2005-06 The yard is expecting a net profit of around Rs 58 crore (provisional) in 2006-07, which is three times that of last year’s Rs 18 crore. The turnover is expected to be Rs 800 crore, which is twice that of the previous year’s Rs 418 crore. It has also proposed a small ship division, which has received the in-principle approval of the Ministry of Shipping and Planning Commission, a statement issued here said. According to a press statement, the yard has delivered a platform supply vessel – Sea Angler – to Deep Sea Supply, Norway on Thursday. This is the third vessel being delivered in this calendar year of a series of eight ships being built for this owner. The yard also laid keel for BY-60 the fifth of the series of PSV. The first two vessels of this series were delivered in January and April and are rendering good service in offshore fields off Congo in West Africa. The vessel is designed for meeting the specific demands of the offshore industry for transport of deck cargo, pipes, liquid cargo, cement / barrite etc and unloading to rigs and production platforms, pipe-laying barges etc. These vessels are the workhorse of offshore oil field industry which acts as a lifeline carrying all operational supplies and stores to far off offshore installations. The yard is constructing 17 platform supply vessels for European clients. Apart from this, 2 bulk carriers for Clipper, Bahamas, are under advanced construction. Total order book of CSL is 19 ships amounting to over Rs 2,000 crore. This is excluding the Air Defence Ship for the Indian Navy, which is a very prestigious order for CSL, the release added.
