Our Bureau Mumbai, July 19
The Reserve Bank of India awarded various banks and financial institutions for participating in essay and other contests in Hindi. The central bank awarded these institutions at the RBI Rajbhasha Prize Distribution function. Speaking at the function, Dr Y.V. Reddy, Governor, RBI, said banks and financial institutions should motivate their staff members to use Hindi and other Indian languages in their work. Echoing similar views, Mr V. Leeladhar, Deputy Governor, RBI, pointed out, it has been of concern that majority of the people in the rural areas do not have access to financial services. Language plays an important role in reaching out and serving the rural population. Banks like Allahabad Bank, Central bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, among others were awarded.
