Call to boost garment exports

Visakhapatnam, July 20

Though India has great potential for garment exports, it remains largely unutilised and the Indian share in the global market is hardly two per cent against China’s 25 per cent, said Mr M.T. Moon, Managing Director of the South Korea-based sewing machine manufacturer, Sunstar. Mr Moon, who was here to exhibit the latest automated machines from Sunstar, said at a press meet on Thursday that Indian exports amounted only to $9 billion. He said India could compete with C hina if it could make use of the huge labour force, especially women, in the sector. He said the Government should encourage apparel parks.
