Award for rice research scientist

Hyderabad, July 20

Dr Maganti Sheshu Madhav, a senior biotechnologist working with Directorate of Rice Research, has won the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for 2006 for his Ph.D. work on `Molecular mapping and isolation of blast resistance gene in rice'.

Dr Madhav achieved map-based cloning of plant disease resistance gene for the first time in India. The award was presented by Mr Sharad Pawar, Union Minister for Agriculture, in New Delhi recently, a statement said. - Our Bureau
