Cargo handling may go up in NMPT

Bangalore, July 20

The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) expects to increase its container cargo handling this year by at least 17 per cent to 20,000 TEUs.

The optimism stems from an expected diversion increase in cashew handling with Mangalore and neighbouring region with their large number of curing facilities being sought by exporters. In an effort to highlight the improvement in its infrastructure facilities to handle higher cargo volume, both bulk and container, NMPT will be holding an interactive session here on Saturday with importers and exporters from Bangalore.

The meeting will be addressed by the Chairman and senior official of NMPT. In the interactive session, the officials will elicit the trade's suggestions for a smoother movement of cargo through the Port. - Our Bureau
