Mangalore, July 22 The Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC) will submit a report on panchayat raj, rural and urban governance in 20 days.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Mr Veerappa Moily, Chairman of the ARC, said that the commission has already submitted five reports on various topics, and the report on panchayat raj, rural and urban governance will be the sixth one. The commission is planning to submit the report in 15 to 20 days, he said.

The commission is also working on a report on conflict resolution, and the draft is ready in this regard. The report on conflict resolution will be released by the end of August, he said.

Terming Mangalore as the investment hope of Karnataka, he said the State Government should send a proposal to the Centre seeking PCPIR (petroleum, chemical and petrochemical investment region) status to Mangalore. The PCPIR will bring in huge investments to the region, and it is essential for the State Government to send a proposal to the Union Government in this regard, he said.

Mangalore SEZ

On the Mangalore SEZ (special economic zone) project, Mr Moily said that the State Government should have a manpower planning for the project, as the project is likely to generate numerous jobs in the years to come.

To a query on the delay in the commissioning of passenger train service between Mangalore and Hassan, he said that the South Western Railway zone has proposed to operate a passenger train and a goods train on the route. Stating that a proposal has already been sent to the Ministry in this regard, Mr Moily said he would discuss the matter with the Railway Ministry.
