Human Resources States - West Bengal ‘Cos must offer high quality growth opportunities’
Our Bureau Kolkata, July 22 The biggest challenge for HR professionals today, especially in large corporate houses, is to provide employees high quality opportunities for growth, development, learning and contribution. Speaking at the inaugural session of the first national `Strategic HR Summit 2007’ organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce here on Friday, Mr Anand Nayak, Chairman of Strategic Summit 2007 and Member, Corporate Management Committee, ITC Ltd, said companies need to get the wrong people off the bus, as otherwise “the right people will leave and join competition”. Harping on the theme of Retention of Quality Manpower through adoption of best HR practices, Mr Nayak said companies, confronted by a high attrition rate and struggling to cope with growing employee expectations, need to offer a unique employee value proposition, if talent has to be retained. “People are not your most valuable asset anymore – the right people are.” Suggesting that professionally run large companies in this changing HR paradigm will be subjected to “societal audit”, he said the boundary between corporates and the society was now getting blurred, warranting creation of both social and environmental capital through more innovative business models.“Companies now need to have a vision which goes much beyond commercial objectives.”
