N-E delicacy: A tribal Khasi woman selling bamboo shoots in Beltola weekly market in Guwahati. Bamboo shoot is a delicacy among the people in the North-East region. The tribal women come from nearby Meghalaya to sell bamboo shoots, which are harvested from June to September every year. The North-East region has abundant bamboo resource. At least 65 per cent of bamboo in the country and 20 per cent in the world are grown in the region. —
