New Delhi, July 23 There is requirement of Rs 9,12,375 crore over the next five years to bridge the deficit of access to healthcare services in the country, says the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
The body has proposed five models for public private partnership, that will have to run in tandem with attractive fiscal incentives and meaningful regulation to make ‘Health for All’ possible.
The model expects to raise the current 1.3 beds per thousand level, to 5 beds per thousand population by 2012.
The shortage of human resources facing the industry five years from now has been estimated at more than 4.5 lakh doctors, nearly 1.3 lakh nurses and a huge number of paramedics.
Under the PPP options for primary and secondary healthcare, FICCI proposes State governments hand over the management of sub-centres, primary health centres, CHCs and district hospitals to private players under lease agreement.
The other suggestions include a capex-sharing model arrangement with the Government expected to build infrastructure, to be services and equipped by the private sector.
