Railways Corporate - New Business BEML may bag Rs 1,200-cr order from Delhi Metro
Our Bureau New Delhi, July 24 BEML has emerged as the lowest bidder to supply 156 coaches for about Rs 1,200 crore to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. “We have emerged as the lowest bidder to supply standard gauge coaches. “This would be the first time when standard gauge metro coaches would be manufactured in the country,” Mr V.R.S. Natarajan said, pointing out that earlier orders of DMRC have been for broad gauge metro coaches. He told this to Business Line on the sidelines of a conference on rail technologies. BEML manufactures coaches in the country after a transfer of technology agreement with Korean firm Rotem. The negotiations for the tender are going on as on date, and the coaches have to be delivered before the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi. Delhi Metro is building standard gauge tracks from Central Secretariat to Badarpur; and Inderlok to Mundka in the city. Delhi Metro spokesperson declined to comment on the issue when contacted pointing out that they do not comment on a tender under negotiation. The conference was held by exhibition firm Expoworld as a prelude to a dedicated exhibition on Railways in India – ‘India Railtech 2007’ to be held at New Delhi from September 20 -22.
