Kanya salons expanding in South

Chennai, July 24

Kanya, a chain of beauty salons for women, plans three more branches in the southern States, one of which could well be in Hyderabad soon. Announcing this at a fashion show organised here to mark the brand’s silver jubilee year, Ms Latha Mohan, CEO of the company, said, “We are also planning to foray into other segments such as nail art shortly.” As there is a wide gap between the demand and supply of trained hair stylists, the company proposes to open an academy in two to three months. “Initially, for captive purposes, then over a period we may consider taking more number of students”, she said. Kanya currently has seven outlets — six in Chennai and one in Bangalore — and has a staff strength of 300. The chain also has two sub brands — Bounce and Oryza.
