Mangalore, July 24 This is a different kind of mobile banking. Taking the cue from the Government’s intention to provide doorstep banking facility to customers, the Mangalore-based South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank Ltd is planning to introduce ‘bank-on-wheels’ (mobile bank service) in Mangalore.

Displaying the vehicle meant for providing the service to presspersons here on Tuesday, the President, Mr M.N. Rajendra Kumar, said the bank will offer the service once it gets approval from the Reserve Bank of India.

Such a facility will be provided for the first time in the banking industry by a cooperative bank, Mr Kumar said, adding ‘bank-on-wheels’ would provide all the facilities of a typical branch. Costing around Rs 35 lakh, the initiative will help provide better service to customers and improve the business of the bank.

‘Bank-on-wheels’ will be managed by a manager, assisted by two more staff. Besides the driver, there will be a security guard. To allay security concerns, the control of the vehicle will be with the manager and cameras have been fixed both inside and outside the vehicle to ensure smooth functioning, he said.
