Our Bureau Hyderabad, July 25 The kidnap of the Satyam Computer employee has nothing to do with his profession or job said the Andhra Pradesh Police, while assuring the IT industry and corporates of the best support. A day after Mr Satya Vedula was kidnapped and rescued, the police have made some arrests and identified the people. The Satyam employee has also reached home safely. The Director General of Police (DGP), Mr M.A. Basith, said there is a motive, which we are investigating and will get to the cause soon. The police is gearing itself to meet the new challenges thrown up by the IT sector, which has impacted lifestyles in a very short time span. “Work culture, spending free time, entertainment pattern, attitudes towards various issues is changing rapidly, Mr Basith told newspersons here today. While major IT companies have been deploying private security, which is quite effective, the city police is alive to the newer demands and is trying to address them, he added. The DGP said there is an increase in white collar crime, cases of cheating was on the rise, as was crime against women and weaker sections of society in the State. Incidents of burglary and dacoities on the other hand were going down. On naxalite issue, Mr Basith said “The extremist situation is largely under control. We have been successful in neutralising important cadre in recent times. During January-June, 2007 naxalite-related activity is down considerably”. Asked about the offer of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) from Israel for the State Police to monitor extremist movements, the DGP said “They have made a presentation, but under the present circumstances, they are not required. Without them itself, we are doing well”, he said. The Centre had offered a helicopter to be placed at the disposal of Government’s affected by naxalites for evacuation and emergency operations. An order has been placed with Pawan Hans and the chopper should be available soon, he added.
