Education States - Andhra Pradesh IICT to offer pest management solutions
Our Bureau Hyderabad, July 25 The Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) here is in the process of providing integrated pest management (IPM) solutions, according to its Director, Dr J.S. Yadav. Speaking at the southern regional conference of the Indian Pharmacological Society (IPS) here today, Dr Yadav said, “we have developed expertise in pheromone application technology for IPM”. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has asked us to implement the solutions in a big way at the national level, the IICT Director said. On a pilot basis, the technology was used in Nalgonda, East and West Godavari districts in Andhra Pradesh with promising results, he added. On biodiesl front, Dr Yadav said a 10 kg/hour processing plant was being commissioned at the IICT soon. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, in his inaugural address, said there was a need to focus on medicinal applications of herbal plants. “There are 40,000 unexplored, potential herbal plants in India, they should be explored for improving the health of the people”, he added. Hyderabad has emerged as a global destination for pharma and biotech industry. Dr Reddy said “The life sciences capabilities have been developed by the industry and institute here with the support of the State Government.
