EAC’s optimism

As with elections, the economy scene is getting cluttered with forecasts. The latest think-tank to join in is the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC) which held an unprecedented media conference in the capital last week to share its projections on the economy. And it has come out with a robust prediction of 9 per cent growth, provided of course the monsoon behaves and external conditions remain favourable. Economy watchers note that the EAC projections are more optimistic than the RBI’s and scribes at the EAC media event ‘grilled’ the council. But coming from Dr C. Rangarajan, an economist of international repute, , there can be little doubt about EAC’s projections.
