Thiruvananthapuram, July 26 MobME Wireless Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the city-based Torque, has announced the appointment of the US-based investor, Mr George Brody, as its Chairman.

According to Mr Sanjay Vijayakumar, CEO, MobME, Mr Brody has invested in the company and will also work on efforts to help MobME grow its mobile media and entertainment business and enter the international market. He will also assist the company with its plans to go public in the next two-three years, he added. However, Mr Vijayakumar declined to reveal details about the value of Mr Brody’s investment in MobME.

Mr Brody is an angel investor in several start-ups in the US and brings with him over 30 years of experience in the technology industry, Mr Vijayakumar said. Mr Brody has worked with Nortel Networks and was Vice-President and General Manager of Nortel Networks wireless networks solutions division, he added.

MobME, which was spun-off from Torque earlier this year, was set up with funding from several NRI investors. The company is now in discussions with venture capital firms to raise between $7 million and $10 million in the next few months.

In about three weeks, MobME will formally launch several new products in the mobile value-added services space, Mr Vijayakumar said. Some of these products such as FastAlerts and Mobshare are currently being tested and have received a good response, he stated.

FastAlerts is a Web 2.0 communication tool that can provide instant alerts to a number of users using multiple systems such as SMS, e-mail and voice alerts, while Mobshare is a Web-based tool that allows mobile phone users to share pictures and videos shot using their phones, he explained. The company is also working on generating content for use in mobile phones and will announce details soon, he added.

Started two years ago by a group of engineering students from Thiruvananthapuram, Torque is based at the Technopark- Thiruvananthapuram.
