Brands Arvind may bring in another global brand
Our Bureau Bangalore, July 26 The country can now look forward to another international brand from the Arvind stable. Although Mr Darshan Mehta, President, Arvind Brands, wouldn’t name the brand, he said it was not from VF Corp, with which Arvind Brands has a joint venture. But even as the company settles another international joint venture, Mr Mehta, who has been the moving force behind many such global ventures in the past, is on his way out. He is all set to join the Future Group as CEO, New Business. He will be based in Mumbai. Mr Mehta told Business Line: “I have been with the Lalbhai group (which owns Arvind Mills and Arvind Brands) for 23 years, since 1984; I felt it was time to move on. I have always liked the canvas in which Mr Kishore Biyani (o f the Future Group) thinks. The new job will involve bringing in international brands and signing joint ventures. It will be a role that will evolve over time.” As to a question on who will succeed him, Mr Mehta says: “The company is looking around. It is open about it. I suspect it will be from outside.” As part of Arvind, Mr Mehta has been responsible for clinching several deals such as the joint venture with VF Corp last year to market and distribute all VF brands such as Lee, Wrangler, Nautica, Jansport and Kipling. Till then, Arvind had a licensing arrangement with the US company. Recently, Arvind Brands struck a joint venture deal with Italian jeans brand Diesel.
