‘Fair land acquisition policy vital for growth’

New Delhi, July 26

Our Bureau

New Delhi, July 26 Senior social scientist at the World Bank, Mr Asger Christensen, advocated for a fair, equitable and efficient land acquisition and resettlement policy for smooth economic growth and rapid infrastructure development.

While addressing a workshop, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry on Wednesday, he said that any uncertainty or delay related to land acquisition could pose a major bottleneck to infrastructure development, which may affect growth prospects. These bottlenecks could be opposition to inadequate compensation for the land acquired, deteriorating livelihood for the displaced population and lack of transparency.

He called for a development mechanism to identify stakeholders and ensure that the benefits of investments are shared by all the stakeholders.
