Opinion - Letters
Inclusive growth

All the major cities have grown enormously in the last decade after the opening up of the economy. The IT and biotech revolutions, real estate growth, strong economy, bullish stock market, affordable bank credit, etc., have played a major role in the construction boom in these cities. Unfortunately, many of the backward districts have not participated in the India growth story.

It is time the government chalks out a programme to ensure that the backward areas are also brought into the mainstream. If employment opportunities are provided in small towns, the migration from rural regions to the cities can be checked. Also, instead of encouraging corporates to set up Special Economic Zones in and around the already congested major cities, the government should seriously think of allotting barren lands in the backward districts for such purposes.
