Companies to get their own postal pin codes

Our Bureau

New Delhi, July 27 Now companies or organisations can get their own pin codes. The Department of Telecom has launched a new scheme whereby entities receiving large number of mails will be assigned a unique pin code that will enable faster delivery of mails. At present, postal pin codes have been assigned only to cities and towns.

“As per our analyses there are a number of entities, usually Government departments, that send and receive mails in bulk. We are assigning such customers with a unique pin code that will enable us to sort and deliver these mails faster,” said a DoP official. For instance, the Department of Telecom has been assigned a pin code of 110117.

The move is part of DoP’s strategy to take on competition from private courier services.
