Our Bureau Mumbai, July 27 Public sector oil major Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) has registered a net profit of Rs 192.7 crore for the quarter ending June 30 as compared to a net loss of Rs 426.5 crore for the year-ago quarter. Net sales for the quarter increased by 5 per cent to Rs 23,869.4 crore (Rs 22,710.7 crore). Market sales during the quarter increased to 6.33 million tonnes (5.78 million tonnes). The Gross Refining Margin for Mumbai refinery during the quarter was $6.50 per barrel ($5.41 per barrel in April-June 2006) and for the Kochi Refinery, it was $7.97 per barrel ($5.98 per barrel in April-June 2006). BPCL is a statement said that the quarter has been adversely affected due to impact on account of high crude oil and product prices, which could not be fully passed on to the consumers. The underrecovery on diesel, petrol, kerosene sold through the public distribution systems and domestic LPG was partially compensated by the upstream oil companies. Accordingly, Rs 963 crore (Rs 1,380 crore in April-June 2006) has been accounted for during the quarter towards discount received for purchase of crude oil, LPG and kerosene from ONGC and GAIL, the statement said.
