Brands Omega upbeat on branded jewellery biz
Our Bureau Chennai, July 30 Swiss watch brand Omega, which introduced its brand of jewellery in India in March this year, is optimistic about the business. Ms Annette Buess, Sales Manager Bijoux, Omega SA, said India is a very promising market as “branded jewellery has shown extremely good growth in the country”. Ms Buess told Business Line on the sidelines of the launch of Omega Fine Jewellery at the Omega boutique in ITC Park Sheraton here recently that rings accounted for 60-65 per cent of the sell-out of Omega jewellery worldwide. The range also includes earrings, bracelets, necklaces, pendants and charms. About five per cent of the jewellery range is in stainless steel, meant for men. This includes accessories such as cuff links, money clips and bracelets. Omega, which has been making watches since 1848, launched jewellery only in 2002. Ms Buess said demand has been growing every year and it is now distributed in 250 points of sale in various markets that include China, Hong Kong, Japan, the US and Europe. China and Hong Kong are the biggest markets for the jewellery, Ms Buess added. Omega has five exclusive boutiques in India — in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai — and the jewellery is being launched in all of them. There are four lines in the range, their designs matched to those of various watches made by Omega. They are Omegamania, which is inspired by the Greek alphabet Omega; Griffes, based on lion’s claws to represent strength; Sedna, based on a galaxy of stars; and Aqua, which is a motif of waves. Fine Jewellery is priced Rs 40,000 onwards. As of now, there are no specialised collections for individual markets but they cannot be ruled out, Ms Buess said.
