Financial Performance Corporate Results - Telecommunications
Our Bureau Mumbai, July 31 Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd’s net profit for the first quarter of the fiscal rose by 18 per cent, led by increased revenues and profits from its ‘enterprise and carrier data’ business. The company’s net profit amounted to Rs 104 crore, against Rs 88 crore in the same year-ago quarter. Net sales from operations amounted to Rs 1,008 crore, rising 9 per cent from Rs 924 crore a year earlier. Total expenditure was recorded at Rs 1,035 crore (Rs 951 crore). The company’s profit before tax and exceptional items amounted to Rs 165 crore (Rs 131 crore), rising 26 per cent. The wholesale voice business fell both in revenues and profitability. Its revenues at Rs 531 crore were slightly lower from a year ago (Rs 538 crore). Earnings before interest and tax fell to Rs 75.78 crore (Rs 127 crore). VSNL shares lost Rs 1.75 or 0.38 per cent on the BSE on Tuesday, to close at Rs 454.65.
