Strategy Variety - Watches & Accessories Timex testing watch that can link to an iPod
Deepak Goel New Delhi, July 31 In an attempt to cash-in on the popularity of the music device iPod, Timex Watches India would launch watches in the country that can control the functions of the Apple product. “The product is currently being test marketed in the United States and we would launch it in India towards the end of the year,” said Mr Kapil Kapoor, Senior Vice-President-Asia and Managing Director of Timex Watches India Ltd. The watch, through a wireless connection, would enable users to change songs and tweak volume levels while the music device remains in the pocket. The company plans to launch the product only in the metros initially. “We would begin with big cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore and then make the product available in other cities. Although it would be a premium priced product, it would be affordable to the target customer base,” said Mr Kapoor. The company also plans to take the number of its time factory outlets to 50 by the end of next month and to 100 by the end of the year.
