New Delhi, July 31

National Foods Ltd, a Pakistan- based FMCG company, is all set to launch in India, aiming at a $1 million turnover within its first year of business in the country.

"India's food market is growing at over 20 per cent a year-on-year basis. In fact, the market for our flagship category, ready-to-cook powder spices (recipe spices), around $120 million in India.

Therefore, there is great opportunity for our products the country," said Mr Zahid Majeed, Corporate Marketing Director, National Foods Ltd. The company initially intends to roll out only its recipe spices, across eight cities through 10,000 outlets.

After reaching the desired volume, the company intends to introduce other categories such as sauces, jams and pickles, and also spread geographically across India.

MANUFACTURING UNIT

On setting up a manufacturing unit in India, Mr Majeed said, "That will happen hopefully in the third year of our operations in India, since it will become feasible only after we reach a certain benchmark in the market here."

MARKETING PLANS

On the company's marketing plans, Mr Majeed said that it would use primarily belowthe- line and in-store activities to mark its arrival in the market. Besides, print and radio media will also be leveraged for a greater advantage.

"We will also leverage the benefits of organised retail such as greater visibility and product placement. In fact, we are already talking to several retailers for the same," he said.
