Remote device enables SMS alert about vehicle theft

Micro tech lines up new range of products

In case of a theft, the user has to send commands in a prescribed format via SMS to a particular number. Once the SMS reaches the system, it immobilises the car engine and locks the doors.

Mumbai, July 29By now, you must have got used to getting SMSs and e-mails screaming about the latest offers on cars, houses and mobile phones. But, imagine getting an SMS saying, “Someone is attempting to break into your car”? Or an e-mail warning you of a gas leak at home?

Mumbai-based Micro Technologies has come up with products that help to curb thefts and cautions users of impending accidents warranting immediate attention through SMS, -and also on the landline.

One of its products, Micro VBB, is an anti-theft security system that enables the user to detect any unauthorised access to his vehicle. “Micro VBB uses various sensors to detect smoke or events such as forcible intrusion. It is also proactive in enabling the vehicle owner to exercise control over his vehicle till it is traced,” said Dr P. Sekhar, Chairman and Managing Director, Micro Technologies.

Command lock

In case of a theft, the user has to send commands in a prescribed format via SMS to a particular number. Once the SMS reaches the system, it immobilises the car engine and locks the doors. Over 2,000 private car-owners, including corporate customers, are currently using this remote activated device.

Another product, Micro house security system (HSS), can be used on premises to alert users of any unauthorised entry, again through an alert message.

“Apart from messaging as a mode of intimation during incidents such as intrusion, smoke detection or gas leakage, the system is also incorporated with audio effects like a siren,” said Mr Sekhar.

Products in line

The company’s messaging initiative works better on GSM-compliant handsets. Micro Technologies has till date rolled out over 40 software and hardware security products and another 25-30 products are still in the pipeline.

Recently, Micro Technologies launched a mobile tracking system that enables users to “locate” their lost cell phones. It also helps users to detect the new phone number if another SIM card has been inserted in the phone. For this, the company has a tie-up with Airtel.
