Waste disposal

At a time when we are struggling with the problem of waste disposal, the article “How Germany makes good its waste” (Business Line, July 30) should be helpful. In fact, many good beginnings have been made. There were wealth-from-waste projects, such as producing power from waste. Thiruvananthapuram Corporation had provided boxes in two colours — green and white — to every house-hold to separate plastic and other wastes that are collected in different containers. And there are some hawkers specialised in taking back old electronic goods. We should be able to make good beginnings and go forward to achieve good ends.

A. Jacob Sahayam Thiruvananthapuram
