Tea Fair demand at Coimbatore tea auctions
Our Bureau Coimbatore, Aug 2 At the weekly auctions held here, the total offerings of tea stood at 6.46 lakh kg of which the leaf grades accounted for 2.49 lakh kg and the rest was of the dust. The demand for the orthodox leaf generally remained weak as shippers to the CIS countries operated with less strength. Select invoices of well-made brokens ruled easier by Rs 2-4 a kg. Others suffered withdrawals. Few exporters and internal buyers operated on orthodox dust. While small volumes on offer remained barely steady, the overall demand remained fair. Fair internal demand
The quality of the bright liquoring CTC leaf grades was irregular. Mediums recorded a steady to easier market while plainer sorts were easier by Re 1- Rs 2 with some withdrawals. Exporters operated on bolder grades at lower levels. Internal buyers lent fair support. CTC dust witnessed fair demand. The major blender was selective on medium teas. Exporters operated selectively on smaller dust grades at lower levels. Internal buyers lent fair support. The price of good liquoring varieties and better mediums ruled dearer. The market also witnessed some withdrawals of low quality teas. The best CTC grades were quoting between Rs 45 and Rs 56 and the medium orthodox dust hovered between Rs 40 and Rs 44.
