Focus on pruning costs starting to pay: Fortis

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Aug. 2 Fortis Healthcare has reported a net loss of Rs 34.91 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2007 against Rs 24.88 crore in the same quarter the previous year.

The company’s net sales saw a growth of a little above five per cent at Rs 126.7 crore (Rs 120.13 crore). The operating margins saw an improvement to 12 per cent (9.42 per cent).

“Higher occupancy and a lower length of stay have contributed to higher asset turnover, which has led to better operating margins. Our continued focus on bringing down costs and improving efficiency at our existing hospitals has started to yield results,” said Mr Shivinder M. Singh, MD, Fortis Healthcare, in a statement from the company.
