Pune, Aug 2 DSM Engineering Plastics, a player in the high performance thermoplastics, will roll out products from its new facility at Ranjangaon near Pune by mid-July 2008.

Talking to presspersons Mr Jos Goessens, President, DSM Engineering Plastics Worldwide, said the facility, being set up at an investment of $20 million, would have a capacity of 20,000 tonnes per annum.

He said the reason for the setting up of the greenfield project was to capture the opportunities, mainly in the segments of infrastructure (construction and power) and the automotive sector.

He said awareness towards saving energy has promoted the use of compact fluoroscent lamps in India, where it is eyeing significant potential.

On the automotive industry, he said that it is in talks with a two-wheeler manufacturer for replacing the metal parts of the body with plastic.

He said the possible applications in the two-wheeler could be gear box parts, switches in the steering wheel, chain tensioners etc.

The company is also a major contributor to the Rs 1-lakh car of Tata Motors and said it would supply only the granules and that it would be mostly for parts, which go under the hood.
