Cabinet nod for SEZs near Hyderabad


Major decisions

The Cabinet also approved two major townships coming up near Hyderabad.

It also approved certain sops for integrated steel plants or alloy steel units using blast furnace technology.

The State Cabinet has approved the allotment of land for the two IT majors Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) paving the way for setting up of respective special economic zones near Hyderabad.

They were allotted land at Rs 40-lakh per acre through the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Investment Corporation Ltd.

Investments

Briefing newspersons here, the State Information Minister, Mr Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, said Cognizant has been allotted 75 acres and TCS 40 acres.

While Cognizant had indicated at investment of Rs 330 crore building about 20-lakh sq ft of office space with potential to accommodate 12,000 employees, TCS planned to invest Rs 400 crore and develop 15 lakh sq ft to accommodate 15,000 employees.

The cabinet also approved two major townships coming up near Hyderabad and assured necessary support. One relates to Srinagar Township coming up in 550 acres to be developed by Ramky Estates and Farms in league with Hyderabad Urban development Authority and another being developed by Tishman Speyer Consortium spread over 400 acres.

Townships

Tishmen Speyer, ICICI and Nagarjuna Construction Company with equity of 37:37:26 have invested Rs 1,686 crore at Rs 4.251 per acre for the proposed township. The cabinet also approved a State support agreement for these two townships.

In another important decision, the Cabinet approved certain sops for Integrated steel plants or alloy steel units using blast furnace technology. These would be extended incentives as per the State Industrial Investment Policy 2005-2010.

Power Project

Late on Tuesday, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said that the 520 MW power project of BPL, which was transferred to AP Genco for delay in execution, has been handed over again to BPL for execution. This is based on Japanese interests in the project and to ensure that trade relations do not get marred.

The Chief Minister also said that the bidding process for the Krishnapanam ultra mega power project would be called for in October 2007. Dr Reddy said the Prime Minister assured support to some of the State projects including Outer Ring Road, and high speed rail corridor.
