Cement cos report higher July output, dispatches

Mumbai, Aug. 2 Cement companies continued their robust growth in production and dispatches in July and for the quarter ended July 31, 2007. Cement major ACC has reported a 10 per cent rise in production to 1.63 million tonnes (mt) in July compared with 1.47 mt in the corresponding period of the previous year.

In the first quarter of this financial year, production rose 12.69 per cent to 5.15 mt against 4.57 mt in the same period last year. Dispatches in July were up 14.68 per cent to 1.64 mt (1.43 mt). In first quarter of the financial year 2007-08, it was higher by 14.41 per cent to 5.16 mt (4.51 mt).

Higher dispatches

The Aditya Birla Group’s cement production in July rose 9.13 per cent to 2.39 mt, while dispatches when compared with last year grew 13.10 per cent to 2.39 mt. The production of the group during the first quarter of the financial year was up 6.98 per cent to 7.66 mt. Dispatches in the quarter were up by 6.87 per cent to 7.62 mt.

Similarly, Ambuja Cements production in July were up 18 per cent to 1.40 mt (1.18 mt). Dispatches also moved up 20 per cent to 1.39 mt in July against 1.16 mt last year. Production during the first quarter rose 5.90 per cent to 4.31 mt while dispatches were up 6.72 per cent during the quarter.
