Strategy Variety - Sports ESPN hunts for new STAR Cricket presenter
Our Bureau New Delhi, Aug. 2 If Indian cricket lacks any drama, ESPN STAR Sports is filling up that gap with the launch of second edition of its talent hunt for a sports presenter. ‘Clinic All Clear Dream Job’ is based on successful international format followed in the US and Europe, claims ESPN, and is part of the network’s overall strategy of launching quality sports-based feature programmes. “The first edition of the programme received a huge response from cricket lovers across the nation and we expect an even better response this time. The format of the show has been made bigger; the scale is now going to be international,” said Mr R.C. Venkateish, Managing Director, ESPN Software India, in a release. The prize is a one-year contract with ESPN Software India Pvt Ltd and the opportunity to be a presenter on STAR Cricket. ESPN has roped in Ms Mandira Bedi (earlier associated with SET Max) as celebrity judge. “It is not easy to be a presenter especially for sports. The action is live and the result unpredictable. Hence the reactions have to be honest, impromptu and informed. This is a lethal combination and it takes time to adjust and respond,” Ms Bedi said. The jury will also include Ravi Shastri, Wasim Akram, Harsha Bhogle and Alan Wilkins along with Ms Sharon van Zwieten, Executive Producer, News, ESPN STAR Sports, and Ms Colette Wong, SportsCenter Presenter. Hindustan Unilever Lever believes its brand represents the attributes expected from the candidate. “Clinic All Clear as a brand stands for self-assurance, self-confidence and perfection; and Dream Job is a hunt for a perfect candidate who needs to have similar attributes,” said Mr Rajaram Narayanan, GM and Category Head, Hair Care, HUL. Entries are open till August 6, and the show will be aired every Thursday starting September 20 on STAR Cricket.
