Firm trend at Kochi tea auction

Popular dust varieties were firm to dearer at the Kochi tea auction by Rs 1 to 2. Medium varieties remained steady, while plainer varieties eased. Firms such as A.V. Thomas and exporters to CIS countries operated selectively on good liquoring varieties.

Internal buyers were also active, while HLL was quiet. Bolder varieties had less interstate demand. There was 9,75,000 kg of dust on offer at the auction.

Best CTC varieties quoted Rs 64-73, medium was at Rs 54-62 while below medium ranged at Rs 41-50. High grown BOPD varieties fetched Rs 104-106, medium BOPD realised Rs 43-45 and secondaries quoted Rs 30-38.

Best high grown broken were fully firm to dearer by Re 1-Rs 2, fannings were up Rs 5-6, while most other varieties sold at last week’s levels. Medium broken varieties were steady, stalky teas were neglected, while smaller lots of fannings quoted last week’s levels.

Best Nilgiri varieties fetched Rs 80-89, medium orthodox quoted Rs 55-65 while plain orthodox ranged at Rs 40-46. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 51-62 and medium CTC leaf Rs 44-49.
