Rise in exports: A farm worker tending to vanilla crop near Kochi, Kerala. Vanilla exports touched 125 tonnes, valued at Rs 19.96 crore, during 2006-07 fiscal compared with 72 tonnes, valued at Rs 12.27 crore, in 2005-06. The US remains the major market for vanilla and the export to that country increased to 75 tonnes from 34 tonnes. Shipments of vanilla to Germany also increased to 22 tonnes during the same period, according to the Spices Board. —
