Strategy Corporate - New Projects Domino’s plans pizza dough making facility
Our Bureau Pune, Aug. 4 Setting up pizza dough making facilities in three locations, expansion of outlets and innovative products to cater to the domestic market, are all part of the roadmap that has been chalked out by Domino’s Pizza India Ltd. Mr Ajay Kaul, CEO, of the pizza maker, , said the first such facility would be put up at Noida and the construction of the facility had already begun. It was expected to be operational by January next and would have modern equipment and be HACCP certified. Domino’s would be investing close to Rs 9 crore. He said this facility would be able to cater to the demands of about 175 outlets in the country. At present, there are 148 outlets in the country and another 50 would be added by March next. He said Maharashtra, which currently has 26 outlets in Mumbai and seven in Pune, would have 15 more outlets Of this, about eight would be in Mumbai, three in Pune and the others would be in Nagpur, Nasik and Aurangabad. The company was looking at setting up at least a couple of outlets in Nagpur within six to nine months. Mr Kaul said it was also looking at setting up similar pizza dough making facilities, one in the South, in Bangalore and one in western India, on the outskirts of Mumbai. The Bangalore facility would be operational by September 2008 and the other facility by January 2009, he said. Mr Kaul said the company has earmarked Rs 60 crore as investment for building outlets, re-imaging old stores and for the facilities. Mr Kaul said Domino’s was conducting beta testing at Manipal for manufacturing fresh dough. Beta testing is expected to be completed in a month’s time, he added.
